The 40-year-old complainant was allegedly
looted of valuables around Rs 1.5 lakh at knife-point by a 'call girl' and four
of her associates outside a five-star hotel on Sunday evening. He told the
police that he got in touch with the service providers through a phone-based
app, as he and his friend wanted to spend some time with her.
Industry insiders said such services often have
their own websites and are offered in connivance with the hotel staffers. A
cursory look at one such website revealed that the "services" could be
accessed at just at a click of the mouse or a swipe on the phone. The portal
clearly displayed the names of all prominent city hotels where the escorts
could be taken for a premium. The website also provided a "menu",
which had categories such as student, air hostess and actress, with rates
ranging from Rs10,000–16,000 for two hours. The portals also have profiles ofescorts, with personal details, photo albums and contact details.
The police claimed these websites and apps
attracted lots of patrons to hotels around the Mumbai airport. In fact, many
businessmen and others from other cities routinely came to Mumbai, just to
avail these services in the hotels near the airport and return the next day.
The service providers even advertise in popular English dailies," said a
police official.
