Mumbai: BJP MP’s son robbed by escort he hired

Mehar Singh Tanwar, the son of BJP MP Kunwar Singh Tanwar from UP, was robbed by an escort he hired on Sunday outside a five-star hotel in Vakola. Tanwar, a resident of Delhi, has registered a complaint with the Vakola police, claiming the women and her accomplice – a driver – robbed him at knifepoint. He did not sustain any injuries.
The Vakola police said they are investigating the case but added that Tanwar has not given them “precise information” about the incident in his complaint. Nonetheless, they have launched a search for the suspects.
According to the police, Tanwar arrived in Mumbai on Sunday for work and was staying at the five-star hotel. Later in the day, he telephoned an escort agency and asked for a girl. Soon after, the woman arrived at the hotel along with a driver.
Tanwar said in his complaint that the two asked him to get into the car with the cash. When he did so, the driver brandished a knife, held it to his stomach and threatened to kill him if he
raised his voice before snatching Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from him, the police said. The two then pushed him out of the car and fled, Tanwar told the police.
Tanwar telephoned police commissioner Rakesh Maria, who asked him to file a complaint at Vakola police station.
On his complaint, the police registered a case under sections 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police have procured CCTV videos from outside the hotel and are scanning them for clues. “We are also recording the statements of the hotel staff and security personnel,” said senior inspector Mahadev Vavhale.
